Dr. Ronald “Max” Barmoy, died on Thursday, May 17th, 2018, following a brief illness. He was eighty-five (85) years old. Ronald was born January 22 1933, the fourth (4th) child to Norman H. Barmoy and Mary Jane (Austin) Barmoy in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania. Ronald or “Max” as he was known to most, graduated in 1950 from Meyersdale High School. He attended California State College, California, PA, graduating in May of 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in the major sciences. Following graduation, Max began his tenure as a teacher of the sciences with Salisbury High School district, Salisbury, PA during 1954-1956. On June 2nd, 1956, Max married, Jean (Bradley). Shortly thereafter, the couple relocated to El Paso, Texas, while Max served a two (2) year tenure in the United States Army as an Instructor at Fort Bliss Army Guided Missile School. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in 1958, Max applied and was accepted to the University of Pittsburg Dental School, receiving a full Pennsylvania State Senatorial Scholarship upon completion of his freshman year. Max graduated third (3rd) in his class and with honors. Shortly thereafter, Max and Jean, relocated to Frostburg, MD, where they set up residence and he established his dental practice. As written in his auto- biography, Max attributes much of his success in life on the values instilled in him by his family, commitment to others demonstrated by members of his childhood community of Meyersdale, PA and to Jean, his wife of 62 years. He carried these values throughout his life and as demonstrated through civic duty, commitment to community and family. He was a lifetime member of the Frostburg Elks (BPOF-#470), fifty (50) year member of the {Scottish} Ali Ghan Shrine, AF and AM Mountain Lodge #99 and Frostburg Rotary, Faraday Post #24. He served as the Frostburg Water Commissioner during the building of the new Piney Dam. He was also a member of the Allegany-Garrett County Dental Society, Maryland State Dental Society and the American Dental Society for over twenty-five (25) years. His major hobbies were woodworking and gardening, however, his grandchildren, Dylan, Seth, Sydney, Austin, and great-grandchildren, Skylar, Jaxon, Ya-Zariah, and Maelle were “the apples of his eye.” Max is predeceased by his parents, Norman H. and Mary Jane (Austin Barmoy), brother; John “Jack” Barmoy and his wife, Sally Barmoy; sister, Olga “ Jane” Page; brother, James "Beverly" Barmoy; nephew, Ronald Douglas Page, and his in-laws, George C. Bradley and Philomene (Mason) Bradley. He is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter, Ronda Jean Barmoy; son, Bradley and wife, Michéle; grandchildren, Dylan LaRue, Seth LaRue, Sydney Barmoy, and Austin Barmoy; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Jaxon, Ya’Zariah, and Maelle Elizabeth; Brothers- in-law, Joseph Edumund Page and Donald Bradley and wife, Carolee; four (4) nieces, five (5) nephews, multiple generations of great-nieces and nephews, several cousins, and a lifelong friend, Albert “Ab” Dively. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Max’s name to the Ali Ghan Transportation Fund, Cumberland, MD.
