John graduated from Beall High School in 1964. He worked at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company for 21 years before its' closing. He then became a truck driver, eventually becoming an owner operator. He loved being a truck driver and traveling. He met many people and saw many things in his travels. He loved to talk about his work and would spend hours talking to his truck driving buddies. For directions, he didn't need a GPS, his mind was like a computer. He remembered roads, streets, and town names as well as phone numbers. He had a special relationship with his son-in-law, Steve Bittinger, and one of his past times on the weekends was spent over at the garage with Steve. He and his nephews, Chuck, and Kevin began attending the NASCAR races, which he loved! It was the highlight of his life to go to the races with the "boys!" He got to drive a race car at Dover, DE in 2007. When they were young, he taught them how to hunt, ride a motorcycle, a horse, whatever was around. Steve, Kevin and Chuck were his boys which he never had. He and his wife, Carol, loved to camp and travel and spent many winters in Florida. He liked to look for vintage campers, and he and Carol would refurbish them. He also loved to hunt. and work on his old cars. Johnny was a very good-hearted person, who would help anyone in a time of need. He will be missed by a lot of people. He was a member of the Piney Mt. Sportsman Club, and at one time the Classy Chassis Car Club, Western Maryland Rolling Sams Camping Club, Tin Can Tourists and Scotty Enthusiasts. At his request, his body was donated to science. He felt because he had so many health issues, that he could possibly help someone else.
