FROSTBURG- Maxine Agnew Jackson died Friday, October 6, 2017 at her home in Frostburg. She was the daughter of the late Maxwell C. Agnew and Jessie M. Merrbach and was preceded in death in 1978 by her husband, Orville W. “Stoney” Jackson. Maxine was a retired Allegany County teacher. She taught at East Side, Mt. Royal, and West Side. She also taught at Riverdale Elementary School, Riverdale, Maryland. Mrs. Jackson was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Frostburg, Maxine served on the Board of Session of Deacons. She taught Sunday School and was Clerk of Session. She served on the Allegany County Library Board of Trustees and was a member of the Frostburg Museum. She was a member of the Allegany County of Retired Teachers and Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority. She is survived by a son Jeffrey M. Jackson and wife, Vonda of Heath, Ohio, granddaughter, Jerilyn A. Jackson and fiancé Thomas Durst of Frostburg; great-granddaughter Annika Maxine Murphy of Frostburg; great-grandson J.T. Rogers of Frostburg. Surviving from Ohio, granddaughter, Natalie Napper and special friend Mitch Miller, Nadine Atherton and husband Kyle; two great-grandsons Austin and Rusty. Also surviving, good friend Patricia Jackson, and “Bill” Jackson and wife Diane of Frostburg; Judy Stott and husband, Wayne of Cumberland; and numerous nieces and nephews, Dr. Robert R. Love and family, Virginia Beach; Roberta L. Drobis and husband David of California , Kim Jackson and wife Elaine of Midlothian. Maxine had many beloved dogs over the years including Snookie who will miss her mistress. Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Sunday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Laurel A. Underwood officiating. When asked how she wants to be remembered, Maxine replied, “I would like to be remembered as a good mother, a good grandmother, a good great-grandmother and a good teacher.” Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Kim Jackson, Bruce Hanna, Dr. William Mackay, Dr. James Struntz, Tom Shockey, and Christopher Shockey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the charity of choice, or the Frostburg Library, 65 E. Main Street, Frostburg, MD 21532 or the Frostburg Presbyterian Church, 33 South Broadway, Frostburg, MD 21532.
