Linda Louise Higgins passed away on Friday, March 29, at Sterling Care at Frostburg Village Nursing Facility, in Frostburg, MD, after a long illness.
Linda was born September 3, 1948 in Frostburg to Isabell (Schramm) and Kenneth Higgins.
In 1968 she graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland, MD, and she was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. She worked in obstetrics and the nursery in Salt Lake City, Utah, and in Pittsburgh, PA, then returned to Maryland, where she continued to help parents and children through the Healthy Families program with the State of Maryland.
Linda loved to travel. She had wonderful memories of cruises and trips to Alaska and Maine with her sister Connie.
She enjoyed watching NASCAR and rooting for the Pittsburgh Penguins. No sport, however, matched her passion for football, and, particularly, for the Pittsburgh Steelers. She loved going to Heinz Field and to Steelers training camp, and once stood in the pouring rain with no umbrella to get an autograph from Coach Mike Tomlin!
Linda was an indulgent “aunt” to Meagan and Shannon Spry, whom she thought the world of, and who shared that feeling for her. She will also be missed by aunts, cousins, and a wide group of friends who were more like family.
She had many rescue kitties waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge, and she is now reunited with her beloved sister, Connie, her parents, and all the family and friends who have gone before her.
Linda was a member of Divine Mercy Parish at St. Michael Catholic Church in Frostburg, where a Funeral Mass will be held on April 26, 2019, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Eric Gauchat, OFM Cap. as celebrant. Inurnment will be at Vale Summit United Methodist Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Linda’s memory to UNBOUND or to the National Wildlife Federation, two charities she supported faithfully.
