Irene Strickler

FROSTBURG- Irene J. Strickler, 92, of Frostburg passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born August 13, 1923 in Vindex, Maryland , she was the daughter of the late Charles H. Jones and Nanny V. (Smith) Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Howard E. Strickler who died in 1991 and a son H. Edward Strickler who died in 1989. Irene was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. She was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church and a member of the Frostburg Order of the Eastern Star. Irene loved quilting, ceramics and tole painting. She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Mann and husband Jim of Laurel, MD; Helen Pfeiffer and husband Fred of Cresaptown; and Wendy Miller and husband Eric of Frostburg; grandchildren Kim Agnor and husband Jeff, Vicki Dengler, Matthew Strickler and wife Mary Beth, Scott Pfeiffer and fiancée Amber May, Sean Pfeiffer and wife Lori, Jim Murphy and wife Sheba, and Sarah Nightingale and wife Jonel. Also seven great grandchildren, Rachel and Michael Agnor, Bryan Distler, Ally Dengler, Ryan, Lexi, and Josh Pfeiffer, and her cat Sammy. Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jennifer Webber officiating. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. The family would like to extend special thanks to all of the staff at the Frostburg Assisted Living Center and the WMHS High Level Care staff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Frostburg Assisted Living Center, 100 Village Parkway, Frostburg, MD 21532.
