MT. SAVAGE- Ida Mae Burkhart Finzel, 99, of Mt. Savage died on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab Center. Born in Zihlman on March 2, 1917 Ida was the daughter of the late Richard Shoemake and Cordella Long Shoemake Carder. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Burkhart, son, Leon Burkhart, sisters, Mary Jane Carder, Velma Iliff, and Celeste Lough, brothers, Richard Shoemake, George J. Carder, and Lewis E. Carder. Mrs. Finzel was an avid homemaker and gardener. She loved hunting and fishing. She also enjoyed playing the slot machines. She is survived by her husband Clarence Finzel of Westminster, a son Richard Burkhart of Mt. Savage and his special partner, Mary Edith Dominick, grandchildren, Richard Burkhart and wife Angela, Robert Burkhart, and Sheri Severn and husband Dave, great-grandchildren, Karl and Abby Burkhart, sister, Shelby Nixon. Also surviving are special nephew, Joseph Finzel and wife Sherry, and special niece, Carolyn Folk. Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Karen Crosby officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
