Gertrude Loy

CUMBERLAND- Gertrude Regenia (Drew) Loy, “Our Mom Mom”,95, of Cumberland, formerly of Frostburg, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Born March 31, 1921 in Midlothian, she was the daughter of the late Alfred E. Drew, Sr. and Annie (Artz) Drew. She is preceded in death by her husband George Loy who died in 2002, her sisters Anna Dodds and Nellie Allen; her brothers, George Edward, Ernest, Ralph, William, and Alfred Drew, and sister in law Mary Elmira Drew. Mom Mom was the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. Loy was a graduate of Beall High School and attended Catherman’s Business School. She had been a member of the Frostburg Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. Gertrude had worked at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company and retired from the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. Mom Mom enjoyed going out to eat, her shopping trips, and as of late her excursions to the casinos. Mom Mom was a hardworking lady from the old school. She had a mind of her own, was strong willed and determined to live her life on her own terms. She had a heart of gold, she loved her family and was always there for them when needed. As she aged, she may have slowed down a bit but she never gave up. She will be missed and never forgotten, she will live on in our hearts forever. She is in heaven now, free of pain, worry, and fear. Rest in peace Mom Mom, We Love You. She is survived and missed so much by her daughter Charlene Dillon and husband, Lanny of Falling Waters, WV; her grandchildren, Lisa Sowers and husband, Alan of Frostburg; Jimmy Werner and wife, Misty of Hagerstown; Leslie Vickery and husband, Chuck of Waynesboro, PA; and Leann Dillon of Falling Waters, WV; her great-grandchildren, Laura (Sowers) Harden and husband, Thomas of Frostburg; Christopher Sowers of Baltimore; Lyndsay and Laci Vickery of Waynesboro, PA. She is also survived by sister in laws, Ruth Drew and Viola Drew and nieces and nephews. Family funeral services will take place at the Sowers Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Pallbearers will be Lanny Dillon, Alan Sowers, Christopher Sowers, Jimmy Werner, Chuck Vickery, and Thomas Harden.
