LOCUST GROVE, VA- Elizabeth Louise (Jones) Shipman,90, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the home of her daughter Babbette and son in law Jason, who cared for her the last years of her life.
Elizabeth was born on November 12, 1931 in Lewistown, PA to Richard and Miriam Jones. She is predeceased by her husband Robert L. Shipman, Sr. She was also predeceased by both parents Richard and Miriam Jones, sisters, Beverly Ann Jones, Saundra Lee Hessert, Deborah Jean Buchen, and brother Richard C. Jones, Jr.
Elizabeth graduated from Williamsport High School in 1949. During her school years she played the French horn in the band and the Symphony Orchestra. She also played in the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. She worked as a secretary for Clayton Smith, was a switch board operator for Bell Telephone and retired from the FBI. She married Robert Shipman, Sr. June 20, 1951 and they began their life and family traveling with the Army for 21 years. During her retirement in West Virginia she took organ lessons at Keyboard World. She belonged to Mount Zion Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children Robert L. Shipman, Jr. (Barbara) of Nitro, WV, Beverly A. Collins (Colby) of Asheboro, NC, Brian S. Shipman (Diane) of Connelly Springs, NC, and Babb ette D. Ardillo (Jason) of Locust Grove, VA. Grandchildren Inga Shipman, Kristin Jones (Richard), Jennifer Leonard (Michael), Charles Coates (Christina), Melinda Cole, Cody Shipman (Mariana), Kelsey Pettitt, Jonathan Cole (Laura), Miles Shipman, and Carrie Scharf (William). Great Grandchildren Tawny, Destiny, Mikayla, Autumn, Ryan, Haden, Taylor, Riley, Connor, Owen, Nolan C., Nolan P., Cole, Jonathan, Olive, Sadie, Gilbert, Caleb S., Jacob. Great great grandson Dominique.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 1 to 3 p.m. with a funeral service following at 3:30p.m. with Rev. Dan Agnew officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
