FROSTBURG- Charles Harry Sigler, Jr. formerly of 171 Washington St., Frostburg, Maryland, died January 21, 2016 in Annapolis. Born in Frostburg , August 17, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles Harry Sigler and Anne Wilkinson Sigler. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Llewellyn Sigler. They celebrated 60 years of marriage at a reception at Failinger's Hotel in 2007. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Evan James Sigler, and sisters Evelyn Sigler Llewellyn, and Annabelle Sigler Bloom.
He was a graduate of Beall High School, Class of 1943.
Mr. Sigler was a veteran of World War II having served in the Field Artillery,
European Theater. He fought in the Battle of Ardennes (Battler of the Bulge)
campaign as well as serving in occupied Germany.
Mr. Sigler was involved with the Boy Scouts as an Institutional Representative. He was a leader on a fifty-mile hike from Cumberland to Fort Necessity in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Scouting.
He was a past president of the Rotary Club of Frostburg, Maryland, a member of the Freemasons Mountain Lodge No. 99, A.F. & A.M., and a 32 degree member
of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Cumberland, Maryland. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. He also belonged to the American Contract Bridge League.
Mr. Sigler was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church. He served as chairman of the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees. He was also a lay leader, member of the Finance committee, an usher for 40 years, as well as a Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Sigler was awarded both his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Education
degrees from Frostburg State University. He taught Industrial Arts and Social Studies at Fort Hill High School.
Following retirement, Charles and Charlotte were able to fulfill their dream of continuing to travel the world. They visited every continent with the exception of Antarctica. They also participated as partners in many bridge tournaments throughout the world.
Survivors include two sons Larry Allan Sigler and wife, Margaret, and Dennis Wayne Sigler as well as close family friend, Jerry L. Jones. The grandchildren include Brianne Heyer and husband Jessie, Thomas, and Andrew Sigler. The two great-grandchildren are Ryan and Brandon Heyer. Also surviving is a niece, Naomi Cangianelli.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 26, at Sowers Funeral Home prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jennifer Webber officiating. A reception will follow the service.
American Legion Farrady Post 24 will accord military honors at the graveside.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
