Barbara Janice Wright

With great sorrow the Wright, McMahon, Miller, Campbell, and Porter Families announce the passing of our caring, loving, sassy, wife, mother, and grandmother, Barbara Janice Wright, (Mom).

Barbara, 79, passed away surrounded by family and holding the hand of her beloved husband of 59 years, Jim, on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in South Carolina.

Barbara was born on September 26, 1944, to Janice Meredith Phillips and George Walter Phillips, Frostburg.  Barbara graduated from Beall High School, Frostburg in 1963. She spent the rest of her life caring and helping to raise 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Barbara was known as “Mom”, to all, enjoying drinking hot tea with family and friends, camping at Little Brown Lake, raising kids and grandkids on the family farm, gardening, feeding the birds, attending all of her “kids” functions, and cooking huge family meals.

Barbara is survived by her 4 children and devoted and loving husband Jim: Roxy McMahon (Rick), Jamie Wright (Rita), Shannon Miller (Jim), Huey Campbell (Jason).  Barbara was also a doting and loving grand “Mom” to 5 grandchildren:  TJ McMahon (Kristen), Marcus Wright (Shirlyn), Jared Wright (Sarah), Shea McMahon (Brad), and Paige Porter (Peyton).  Four great grandchildren: Zack and Hunter McMahon and Jordynn and Tori Wright.  

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents George Walter and Janice Meredith Phillips, and her sisters Bonnie Gaye, Carol Jean, Mildred, and Helen.

Visitation for Barbara will be at Sowers Funeral Home on Friday, May 19, 5-8 pm with services being held on Saturday, May 20 at 11:00, with Wayne Porter officiating.

Barbara, (Mom), is now free of the horrible disease dementia and reunited with her sisters, parents, many cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank Sterling Care of Frostburg and Wellmore of Tega Cay for their compassion and care.

In lieu of flowers, prepare and enjoy a dinner, including hot tea, with family and friends. Mom would have wanted it that way!
